The location of The Wave in northern Arizona, just south of the Utah/Arizona border. The liight creme/gold highlighter shows the routes taken to get there and return.
A more detailed look at the location of "The Wave." Note this map has no detail in Utah.
We visit historic Lee's Ferry. Here we're stopped along the road off US 89 that goes back to Lee's Ferry and where the rafters start their float trips through the Grand Canyon.
There are several mushroom shaped rocks along this road.

At the boat ramp there is a trailhead that marks the start of two trails, the River Trail and the Spencer Trail.

Thanks for calling my attention to the composition of this photo, Anni.
Looking in one window and out another. How long have you been standing there, Suzanne?

Don attempted some night sky photography about 8:30 pm the night before the hike. Here you can see the constellation Orion's Belt, the three inline stars just to the left of center. The moon was so bright that it made photography difficult.
This is a time-lapse photo of the same sky showing the movement of the stars in about a 15 minute exposure.
Where we ate dinner on Monday night. We are about 50 miles from the trailhead.
This is a night picture of the gas station at Cliff Dwellers Lodge where we stayed. The station is still open - it's about 8:30 to 9:00 pm
Don got up at 5 am (about 2 hours before sunrise) to attempt some more night-sky photography. The moon was below the horizon. Here you can see the "big dipper" in the left center of this shot. You can also see the track of the flashing lights of an airliner crossing the sky from east to west.
This is a 20 minute exposure of the same area of the sky. It shows the stars appearing to rotate about the north star.
Here is a time lapse picture taken at 5:30 am of the Cliff Dwellers gas station. Very few lights were on since the station was closed. I washed/painted the front of the station with a flashlight to illuminate it. Those are the barely-visible Vermlion Cliffs in the background
Day breaks on the cliffs just east of the Cliff Dwellers lodge. We have had breakfast and are about to head for the trailhead.
This herd of deer crossed House Rock Valley Road ahead of us as we traveled to the trailhead.
